If you live and drive around Coquille (or anywhere along the Oregon Coast), you already know how it goes: one week it’s steady rain, the next week it’s a surprise cold snap, and somewhere in there you’ve got puddles deep enough to swallow your boots.
Most folks are good about the big stuff—oil changes, new tires when the old ones are done, fixing something when it breaks. But the smaller safety items? Those are easy to miss until the day you really need them.
That’s why Coquille Tire is working on something simple: safety check reminders that fit real life around here.
Not an app. Not a bunch of spam. Just the kind of helpful nudge you’d actually use.
The question: what would you want reminders for?
Here are a few of the safety-check items we see people overlook the most—usually because life is busy and the warning signs aren’t obvious.
1) Tire pressure
Cold mornings, temperature swings, and slow leaks can drop pressure without you noticing. Low pressure can wear tires faster and reduce traction—especially on wet pavement.
2) Brake condition
Brakes don’t always “fail” suddenly. More often they fade over time. If you’re towing, hauling, or driving hilly roads, brake wear can sneak up quick.
3) Battery health
Coastal weather plus short trips can be hard on batteries. A battery can test “okay” one month and struggle the next when temps dip.
4) Wiper blade condition
This one sounds small—until you hit sideways rain at dusk and realize your wipers are smearing more than clearing. Good visibility is safety.
5) Tread depth
Tread is your traction. When the rain hits, tread depth matters—especially for stopping distance and staying planted in standing water.
6) Rotation schedule
Rotations are one of the best ways to stretch the life of your tires. A missed schedule can mean uneven wear, road noise, and shorter tread life.
7) Steering & suspension parts
Loose or worn parts can show up as clunks, wandering, uneven tire wear, or shaky steering. Catching it early can protect your tires and your ride.
The other question: how should reminders work in a rural area?
We’ve heard it loud and clear: a lot of folks don’t want another app on their phone. Totally fair.
So we’re exploring reminder options that don’t require any new downloads, including:
- Text message reminders (simple, quick, no app)
- Email reminders (good for folks who like a record)
- Postcard reminders (old-school, but they work)
- Phone call reminders (for people who prefer a real person)
- A “digital mileage card” we track for you (you stop by, we update it)
- A rotation punch card (get a punch each rotation—work toward a tire discount)
A punch card idea we’re kicking around
Here’s one concept: each time you come in for a rotation, you get a punch. Once you hit a set number of punches, you qualify for something like:
- a discount toward your next set of tires, or
- a free rotation, or
- a credit toward a future service.
It rewards the folks who actually keep up on maintenance—because that maintenance makes tires last longer.
Help us build reminders people will actually use
We don’t want to guess. We’d rather ask.
If you’ve got 2 minutes, take our quick survey and tell us:
- which safety reminders you’d want, and
- how you’d want to receive them.
